Резиме: Књижевност за децу и, посебно, лектира у разредној настави по дефиницији су простори оптимизма и срећног краја. Различите тешкоће у доживљајима јунака народне и уметничке књижевности, осим што су у функцији саме приче, имају и снажну васпитно-образовну улогу: да јунаке књижевних дела, а са њима и њихове читаоце, подстичу на истрајност у борби за правду и упорност у савладавању препрека. Међутим, ни књижевност за децу ни школска лектира нису лишени текстова у којима су снажно дати мотиви суровости, пролазности и смрти. У раду се полази од одабраних дела из програма и читанки за млађи основношколски узраст, као и од оних који могу бити укључени у предвиђене програмске изборе (између осталих „Врабац и ласте“ Лава Толстоја, Мој дека је био трешња Анђеле Нанети, „Деда на последњем путу“ и „Успаванка за моју баку“ Драгомира Ђорђевића). Циљ рада јесте анализа мотива смрти у овим текстовима, као и могућих значења која се таквим представљањем нуде младим читаоцима. Заступљеност оваквих текстова у настави значајна је, како из ужих, књижевних, тако и из ширих (образовних, психолошко-развојних, антрополошких) разлога, јер ученике суочавају са проблемима на које ће нужно наићи у своме одрастању.

Summary: Literature for children, particularly the reading lists in the lower grades of primary school, are, by definition, the space where optimism and happy endings prevail. Various difficulties encountered by the main characters in the folk and fine literature are not only a functional part of the story, but they also have a strong educational purpose: to encourage the heroes in the story, and the readers, to persevere in their fight for justice and the overcoming of the obstacles. However, there are still many texts in the literature for children and in the school reading lists in which cruelty and the motifs of transience and death are strongly depicted and exploited. The paper begins with a selection of literary works included in the curricula and the collections of literary texts for the lower grades of primary school, as well as the ones that can be included in the literature curricula (e.g.”The Sparrow and the Swallows” by Leo Tolstoy, “My Grandpa Was a Cherry Tree” by Angela Nanetti, ”The Grandfather on His Last Journey” and “A Lullaby for My Grandmother” by Dragomir Đorđević). The goal of the paper is to analyse the motifs of death in these works and to look at their possible meanings to young readers. The inclusion of these texts in the literature instruction is significant both for literaturespecific reasons and in a broader sense (educational, developmental, anthropological reasons), because students become familiar with problems they will inevitably encounter when they become adults.
